What is interoperability in GIS, and (like crime) does it pay?

Dr. Josh Lieberman

Summary

Interoperability is a mantra in GIS circles these days, but is a little like the weather, only more so. Everyone talks about it, some people even try to do something about it, but there are few comprehensive (or even functional) definitions of it. Even rarer are close looks at what interoperability is actually worth in regards to geographic information and services.

This talk will explore what interoperability is and is not, then examine business models which attempt to show where interoperability is an asset, and where a liability in the GIS market.
